The hobby of herb gardening, is fast growing and can take place right in your own home, which is absolutely great.
Learning how to do this in such a short space of time can be extremely difficult but growing a herb garden can be extremely fulfilling. The main problem with tring to get started is just simply down to the lack of knowledge of how to grow a herb garden. The keys to success in herbs gardening are:
- Picking a location in which to grow your herbs inside or outside
- The ways in which you can use the herbs you grow and the options you have available be it culinery herbs, medicinal herbs or ornamental herbs that you are growing. You should not cut herbs randomly. You must ensure that you prune the herbs on a regular basis, shoots that are no longer wanted should be cut to encourage further growth. Always make sure that a sharp knife or even scissors are used for the cutting, branches should not be broken, bent or torn off. Make sure that when you harvest you do so from healthy plants.
Culinery Herbs
Just think by herb gardening you can open your way into a number of delicious recipes which you can impress your family and friends with.
Medicinal Herbs
You could treat illnesses and diseases in a more natural way and stop using unneccesary drugs and pills.
Indoor or outdoor herb gardening
One of the options available to new beginners is to start off with a herb garden kit which are readily available at local garden centres or off the the internet. Also if you grow the herbs indoors it means you do not have to worry about the climate outside and if the plants do need to be tendered to they are within easy reach. Most herb kits are fairly simple and can be grown within more confined spaces such as an apartment. Some ideas of herbs that could be grown indoors could be:
Basil Oregano Marjoram Mint Tansy Yarrow Chamomile Parsley The main disadvantage of growing your herbs indoors is that they can lack a bit of flavour, so after you have got the hang of it, it might be an idea to maybe try and move the herb gardening skills you have outside and grow your herb garden there.
As you can see the benefits of herb gardening are immense and if you aren't already involved you need to be now!
